After 33 years covering the UK steam scene Locomotives Illustrated is 'going modern' and from Issue 171 the all new Modern Locomotives Illustrated will trace the story of the UKs Modern Traction fleets and build up to form an Encyclopaedia of UK loco and multiple unit motive power


Published bimonthly and edited by Colin J. Marsden, each issue of Modern Locomotives Illustrated will trace the full history of one class or group of smaller classes of UK diesel and electric locomotives or diesel and electric multiple units. Each issue will include:

  • Pictures and drawings of design, build and introduction
  • Numeric 'walk round' of class showing main equiptment positions
  • Fully detailed cab illustrations with all equiptment described
